With the BP Portrait Award exhibition providing the highest quality
greenwash for BP at the Aberdeen Art Gallery, Art Not Oil presents a truer
portrait of the oil industry and its impacts at the Belmont Cinema Bar, 49
Belmont Street, Aberdeen, from December 21st 2006 until January 17th 2007.
Art Not Oil also focuses on Shell's sponsorship of the Natural History
Museum's 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' exhibition and the Belmont
will be playing host to the 'Shell's Wild Lie' counter-exhibition, a
powerful collection of photographs which lay waste to Shell's pretence of
sustainability.

2) CLIMATE CAMP 2007 PLANNING MEETING, 13/14.1.07
In August of this year hundreds gathered near Selby to confront the UK's
biggest CO2 emitter: Drax coal-fired power station. The Camp for Climate
Action was an inspiring 10 days of learning, sustainable living
and direct action to challenge the causes of climate chaos. There is
already much enthusiasm for organising another Camp, so come and get
involved on 13th/14th January at The Common Place in Leeds (see
www.thecommonplace.org.uk for directions).
leeds@climatecamp.org.uk. See also www.climatecamp.org.uk.
3) LOW-IMPACT LIVING INITIATIVE COURSES, JAN-FEB ‘07
“Low-Impact Living Initiative (LILI) is dedicated to helping protect the
global environment by promoting sustainable alternatives to various
aspects of everyday life.”

4) SUMMER OF INTERNATIONAL DISSENT AGAINST HEAVY INDUSTRY, 6.7.07
“The campaign to defend Europe's vastest remaining wilderness continues.
After the direct action camps in Iceland in the summers of 2005 and 2006
against the Karahnjukar dam and ALCOA's aluminium smelter, the Saving
Iceland campaign moves on to bring industrialisation of Iceland to a halt.
A new camp in Iceland will commence on July 6th 2007”
http://www.savingiceland.org/
5) SHELL GAS FLARING JUDGEMENT – ONE YEAR ON
“Last year you wrote to Shell to ask them to obey the ruling by a Nigerian
court in 2005 to produce a detailed plan of action showing how they will
stop gas flaring in the Iwherekan Community, Nigeria, by April 2007. They
continue to show no sign of actually taking any action. Keep the pressure
up on Shell - tell Shell to stop making excuses and stop gas flaring.”
http://www.foe.co.uk/campaigns/corporates/press_for_change/email_shell/index.html
6) FARM OCCUPIED FOR ECO PROJECT/CLIMATE ACTION ZONE, BATH
A 100 acre farm near Bath has been occupied and plans are to set up a
climate action zone, eco project and get the organic farm up and running
again. There is a court case underway that may not come to be heard until
the New Year. During this time mediation and negotiations are still being
carried out with the landlord to discuss a number of possible options
including the farm being run as a co-op. Space for projects workshops
events etc. is available and direct action activist support is needed
asap.
www.circlecommunity.org; 07769 791387.
7) STUDENT SIT-IN HALTS LSE OIL BARON'S LECTURE, LONDON, 22.11.06
“LSE students this evening demonstrated their opposition to the
appointment of current BP Chair, Peter Sutherland, as the prospective
Chair of LSE Court of Governors by staging a mass sit-in and halting a
public lecture that he was due to give at the university.”

8) NEW OPERA CREATES 'SOUNDTRACK FOR THE ERA OF CLIMATE CHANGE'
'New opera ‘And While London Burns’ has been described as a compelling
collision of thriller, opera and guided walk that dramatically explores
London's Square Mile and its role in climate change. An 'opera for one',
it takes the audience equipped with an mp3-player on a walking audio
adventure through the skyscrapers, streets and alleyways of the City,
experiencing it through the eyes of a city worker. The audio tour explores
the role of companies including BP, Royal Bank of Scotland and Swiss Re in
fuelling climate change. This unusual work catapults the climate crisis
from the cold realms of science and economics into the emotional world of
culture. Produced by PLATFORM, the track is downloadable for free and can
be experienced at any time of the week.'
http://www.andwhilelondonburns.com
9) SAY NO TO OIL PRODUCTION IN ECUADOR'S YASUNI NATIONAL PARK
After an earlier successful campaign to halt oil road construction,

precarious situation climate change puts people in, especially those who
do not have a choice about where they live.'

'The Two Degrees Show took a flashback to August and the Camp for Climate
Action which initiated high-profile direct action against Drax - the UK's
biggest single point source emitter of carbon dioxide and Europe's biggest
coal-fired power station. The Camp also involved over 150 workshops
covering everything from peak oil to permaculture. The programme featured
three interviews with people who played a lead role in establishing the
camp as a low-impact event in terms of energy (virtually all power
supplied by renewable sources), food (vegan, locally-sourced), sewage
(waste returned to local farmers as a fertilising resource) and waste
water (made safe for returning to the land using a grey water system).
Climate Radio shows (including The Two Degrees Show) are now archived at
http://www.coinet.org.uk
21) ‘TRADING TREES’: RADIO 5 LIVE INVESTIGATION INTO CARBON OFFSETTING
BBC Five Live has broadcast a programme on the carbon ‘offsetting’. The
programme discusses the Carbon Neutral Company and Climate Care, how
different 'calculators' bring up very different numbers and why planting
trees to 'offset' is a scam. There are also some 'sound bites' from George
Monbiot and Greenpeace and some wiggling by Mike Mason (Climate Care) on
their co-operation with Land Rover/Ford.
