After the Hurricane in the Gulf Coast New York City Housing Preservation and Development sent their Code Enforcement Inspectors and Construction Managers, and Fire Inspectors to help the Jackson County Planning Department evaluate the condition of homes and commercial buildings in Mississippi. The following pictures are of inspections taking place in Ocean Springs and Gulf Park Estates Mississippi. Alfred Benway NYC HPD Fire Inspector is shown helping residents check their homes and property before safely returning. The homes were evaluated for structural integrity. Most were beyond repair and had to be demolished after being tagged by the inspectors. Inspector Benway said a category 5 storm like this would have destroyed any part of the U.S. it touched. It would have been almost impossible to prepare for something like this he added.
