This video follows the 2006 march, starting with slow silent procession from Trafalgar Square down Whitehall and becoming a noisy demo on reaching Downing Street. A list naming over 1,200 people killed in custody in the UK was handed in to number 10 and flowers were laid outside Downing Street while people told their own personal stories of the loss of their loved ones at the hands of the authorities. The police kept a low profile throughout the demonstration which ended up at Parliament Square where the placards containing the names of about 150 of those killed were placed facing parliament.

How to play videos you find on indymedia

06.12.2006 11:56

The video above uses the H264 codec which produces files about two thirds the size of a comparable mpeg4 video.

The best way to ensure that you can play this and other videos you find uploaded to indymedia is to download and install VideoLAN (VLC). It is a free open source media player capable of playing H264, MPEG4, DivX, Xvid etc without requiring the installation of additional codecs. It is available on Windows, Max OSX as well as Linux and the like.

Download VLC from here... http://www.videolan.org

If a video doesn't quite match your display you can improve things considerably by adding ffdshow to VLC, where it works in the background with a wide range of filters.

Get it fro free from  http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

Over the years that real2reel have been posting videos and links to indymedia, technology and bandwidth have improved but websites have come and gone. While indymedia is still here, many of the sites which hosted our videos are long gone and any video you can still get at is usually only very low bandwidth versions which might have been great five years ago but are now rightly considered to be very poor quality in comparison with other videos now available online.

We've started going trawling the net and our own archives to get all those videos online again in as good quality as possible. We've been posting the videos to blip.tv and from there they are also uploaded to youtube, archive.org and other sites.

We've set up a wordpress blog  http://real2reel.wordpress.com from which you can pull feeds.
You can also follow our new twitter account to hear about new videos as they are posted.
