54 Mile March for Justice

Appeal to join march in December from Brighton to London for Brighton Resident Omar Deghayes - currently in Guantanamo Bay. This is all provisional at the moment but we are urgently looking for volunteers prepared to join Glenn for the whole march.
Glenn Williams, a Brighton anti-war and human rights activist, will be walking from Brighton to London to demand that Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett allows Omar Deghayes home to Brighton. The United States authorities have agreed, albeit conditionally, to release him but the British government have refused to allow him home. Over the last few months Brighton people have written hundreds of letters and sent a thousand postcards and received only one reply, a letter to councillor Francis Tonks refusing a meeting between Omar's family and supporters and Margaret Beckett. We cannot just accept these undemocratic dismissals and must now make our demands heard by as many people as possible so they cannot be just shelved and filed by civil servants in the Foreign Office.
The walk will begin on Saturday 16th December from Brighton Pier to arrive at the Foriegn Office on Thursday 21st December.
We need other volunteers to accompany Glenn for the entire route. If you don't want to participate in the orgy of consumersim that is Christmas shopping you could get ready for the season of goodwill by marching for justice.
We also need walkers to accompany Glenn for sections of the route to London, to walk the distance in a relay. We will map a route to allow confident walkers to undertake longer sections, less confident ones shorter ones of about 8 miles. Walking in relay will be an important gesture of solidarity but also will help with publicity as the walk leaves and arrives towns along the way to London.
If you are not a walker, there are other ways to help. You might be able to pick up and drop off relay walkers. You might live between Brighton and London host those who are walking the whole distance for one night or feel able to make a donation towards costs (bed and board, petrol or train fares).
If you want to get involved in the walk to London call Glenn on 07973 228 335 or Louise on 07799 362 884.
