Homelessness risng in Sheffield..

Mark Mozaz Wallis | 24.11.2006 14:00 | Sheffield

A comunique on Homelessness, from my own perspective.. In the aim to make a wider point on the impact of Homlessness.

Some Background..

From 1965 to 1985 while in the care of Family Community Services, now named Sheffield social services I was repeatedly Physically, Sexually and Psychologically abused..

This article is not to look in talk about these facts though there no doubt a part as to why i find myself homeless at this time..

We come to 2001 while living at Claywood Drive I found myself in difficulty with my housing. Following advice I telephoned Shelter Line, an advice line for homless people..

It has only emerged to me now that the Manger of the service had banned me on the grounds i was abusive towards workers. The Manger at time was a former active member of The SWP and soon become an active memeber of The Anarchist Community soon to become an active part of Sheffield Indymedia, also a self proclaimed friend..

I can honestly state here that i was not abusive and the lifetime ban put in place at that time is still having impact on my current housing at this Moment.

This brings us to the current date and events.

In 2003 I again found myself homeless i was re housed at Lowedges in Sheffield this was tenacy support involving three agencies. Due to fact that one of the agencies failed in its duty of care to myself i again found myself homeless again in 2004. For over 3 months i squatted then moved into private rented accommodation november of that year.

This acomadation was totally inadequate though i had no real choice but to move in. Slowly the problems with the accomadation overtook and came to a head when i was verbally attacked and threatened and fearing for my own safety, i vacted the accomadation with every intent to re occupy once the threats had been resolved.

However i was locked out early Jan 2006 due to ongoing legal reasons i could not present myself as homeless it was only in June of this year i was able to do so.

Following investagaions under the Homeless Persons Act i was found intentionally homeless i then emplyed a solicitor to appeal this decision.

This appeal has now failed, on Monday of this week i made an effort to contact Shelter line in the hope i could ask them for help and get the ban overterned.

Monday 20 Novemeber 2006 i phoned the phone line it was only on thursdays this week i managed to contact Shelter Quality 018 233 54 993 following over 30 phone calls to Shelter on 02075052000.

I was told by Shelter Quality 018 233 54 993 that the ban would not be overturned,

The ban, i feel was put in place due to my history and reputation, although i have made an effort to point out that i should be given resonable opertunaty to address my homlessness.

This has not been given to myself due to action of the person in 2001 and continues to have an imapct up on my life.

I just wanted people to know that some of those in the Anarchist Movement are i feel abusing ther social responsiblities towards their own class the working class.

Note i have not named the person and the reason for this post is to open it up for debate to gather other peoples thoughts and where i go next.

Perhaps this article will be hidden because one is making comments against an individual of indymedia.

But lets see..

a clarification

27.11.2006 23:19

i was first of all inclined to hide this article as inaccurate, but thought that would be trival of me. so instead i would like to clarify a small section of the above article.

particularly this paragraph:

"It has only emerged to me now that the Manger of the service had banned me on the grounds i was abusive towards workers. The Manger at time was a former active member of The SWP and soon become an active memeber of The Anarchist Community soon to become an active part of Sheffield Indymedia, also a self proclaimed friend."

i believe [though after a phone conversation and an irc discussion with mozaz i'm still not sure] that mozaz believes this shelter manager to be me.

the following are true:

i was an active member of the swp for some time [concurrently with mozaz in fact]

i have been an active[ish] member of the sheffield and wider anarchist community for some time

i have been active in sheffield and uk indymedia for quite a while

i am a self-proclaimed friend of mozaz

i have never worked for shelter

i have never been a manager anywhere

i had a phone conversation with mozaz before he posted this article confirming that i was not the shelter manager

i think the following are true:

that i am the only active ex-swp person involved in sheffield indymedia

i share the same real name as the shelter manager
