SHAC activist found guilty of public order offence

Donal O'Driscoll was found guilty of breaching conditions of Section 14 directions under the Public Order Act 1986 after a one day trial at Hertford Magistrates' Court.

O'Driscoll, who also uses the name Max Gastone, was taking part in a demonstration by the campaign group Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) at GlaxoSmithKline in Ware, Hertfordshire on 16 June 2006.

Four police witnesses gave evidence. Officers said that O'Driscoll did not cooperate with the police and used a loudhailer to disrupt the local community.

The Court heard that in addition to GlaxoSmithKline, two schools and a gymnasium were affected by the protest. One of the schools was holding examinations.

Defence counsel argued that the Section 14 directions were invalid. The Court held that they were both lawful due to the nature of the location and the behaviour and noise made by the activists.

He was fined £350 with £450 costs.

The magistrates found that one of the sec. 14 was both misconceived and unlawful. Yet more impartial reporting from the state's own specialist anti-protest unit, NETCU - the National Extremist Tactical Co-ordination Unit.

What is extreme about using a megaphone outside some animal abusing site that this lot need to stick their nose in. Though, as far as New Labour is concerned all protest, of what ever stripe, needs to be suppressed.

unnecessary

A sign the campaign is working...

don't let them grind you down - you are the voices for the tortured, silenced and caged creatures that are being abused by scum like GSK.

your activism is invaluable and effective (which is why they're trying to keep you quiet).
total solidarity.
