Anti Fur Demo

Zombie | 31.10.2006 14:13 | Animal Liberation

On Saturday 28th October, Rhythms of Resistance Manchester joined anti-fur activists to protest against Kurt Geiger’s repeated refusal to introduce a fur free policy.

Dressed as zombies and playing samba, Rhythms of Resistance Manchester dissuaded shoppers from entering Kurt Geiger and encouraged people to stop at the information stall set up by anti-fur activists. Leaflets were handed out to the many people who stopped to watch the samba and zombie dancers.

The police arrived but after spending some time inside Kurt Geiger, they left without approaching the sambistas. Two so-called Environment Protection Officers later approached the band and requested for the noise level to be reduced. The sambistas kept playing as before!

Kurt Geiger was targeted because their collection includes boots made from real fur, despite the fact that fur farming is banned in the UK. Although several Kurt Geiger shop managers have said that they no longer sell fur, the company has refused to confirm this in writing or to say that the company will not sell fur in the future. The action was to ask consumers to call Kurt Geiger to adopt a fur free policy and to stop needless cruelty to animals.

Contact Kurt Geiger to ask them to stop the sale of all animal fur. Tell them you won’t shop there again until they do, and you will encourage others to do the same:

repeated refusal

01.11.2006 02:37

Just because you demand that someone does as you say many times does not mean that they are wrong and you are right. I must say that the protesters look cute, but then young girls always are oversensitive to the plight of small furry animals.

How about repeated good reasons then?

01.11.2006 08:43

Patronising crap about young girls aside, there's a little more to this than just demanding something as proof of being right. I guess the original poster probably assumed that people might have a little background knowledge of fur farming and trapping and didn't feel the need to make the arguments, again. If you do need some good reasons to be against these things I'm sure a five minute google on the subject will turn up plently of evidence of horrific suffering for nothing but vanity. If you already know this, respond to that and give some reasons why you think it's ok, instead of spouting shite about "cute" protestors...

Pigeonholes

01.11.2006 18:42

Apparently to make a protest "valid", especially when concerning animal issues, the people involved are not allowed to do/be any of the following things:

1. Young girls who like animals
2. Middle aged people in sensible shoes
3. Punks in black hooded tops (aka animal rights terrorists)
4. Students, especially middle class ones
5. Anyone, from one of the above groups or not, with dreadlocks, or anyone vaguely "hippie"
6. (insert stereotype here)

Can people please remember they are only allowed to protest and have an opinion on this issue if they fall outside of all of the above categories. Anyone stating an opinion from one of these groups will be ridiculed, ignored and sent packing with their placard between their legs.

Teenage tracksuit wearing boys from North Manchester/Salford (but not Prestwich, its a bit posh round there) preferably from an ethnic minority (but not Jewish, cos they're like all pro Israel and stuff) are particularly encouraged cos they're from the streets and real like innit.

quite a scoop getting Kenny Everitt to play

Alice

good

09.11.2006 12:54

on you.

glad to see people are still standing out. I protest against the fur industry in the South West, and specially in winter standing outside a fur shop for 3 months straight to stop one shop can be shit, but it's worth it.

Ignore that other twat, i'm glad you lot at least go and get active about it.

Sam

sad!

10.11.2006 06:08

"alice" you logged on the wrong web - this is not about beauty contests; but since you are here maybe you could learn a thing or two about the fur trade and its cruelty.

If people are so desparate for critism but cant find anything substantial and end up on physical apppearance then this is just sad. Focus on the issues of animal cruelty and animal rights - rather than judging a band's level of cuteness you sad sad person!

not cute

cute girls II

14.11.2006 10:18

Its not that i don't support the protest but booboo described them as cute girls and i couldn't see any on the photos, just asking where they where. Still quite a scoop getting kenny to play.

Alice

Cute young girls?

20.11.2006 22:55

In the interests of accuracy it should probably be pointed out that one of the 'cute young girls' pictured above is actually 45 and another one is male. Cuteness is matter of opinion (can we see Alice's picture to see if she's cute?) however last time I checked it didn't preclude people from having an opinion.
