“The public furore ignited in response to the reported comments made by Sheik Taj Al-Din Al-Hilali has little to do with the question of crime or culpability. What is clear is that a consistently negative view of Islam and Muslims is being generated in this country with the aim of demonising Islam and silencing the Muslim community.”

Latest campaign to demonise Islam and intimidate the Muslim Community

Sydney, Australia, October 27 – The current furore surrounding the reported comments of Sheik Taj Al-Din Al-Hilali is the latest chapter in Australia aimed at demonising Islam and the Muslim community.

In an age of heightened hysteria generated as part of the ‘war on terror’, the media and politicians of all persuasions have wasted no time inflaming popular sentiment concerning the question of Islam and its role in Australian society.

Wassim Doureihi, media representative for Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia, comments:

“The public furore ignited in response to the reported comments made by Sheik Taj Al-Din Al-Hilali has little to do with the question of crime or culpability. What is clear is that a consistently negative view of Islam and Muslims is being generated in this country with the aim of demonising Islam and silencing the Muslim community.”

“Whether it is the question of home-grown terrorism, Muslim integration or the Muslim women’s dress code, Islam is consistently being presented as a negative and backward presence in this country and beyond.”

“Generating such hysteria can only lead to further hatred and division in society. All efforts must be expended in resisting such an outcome and building community cohesion.”

Oh Muslims:

The correct response for the Muslim community in trying circumstances is to hold steadfast to Islam and carry its message with courage and frankness; and to continue exposing the reality of Western foreign policy and the heinous crimes committed in its name.

“And whosoever places their trust in Allah, then that is sufficient for him” [TMQ 65:3]

He has also brushed aside recommendations to curtail new clauses outlawing “urging conduct” that “assists” an “organisation or country engaged in armed hostilities” against the Australian military.
