The Extreme Right loves to toss about these labels, in order to:

1) Shift the focus off of themselves, since they know they cannot "win" on facts or their own merits, know they support the indefensible, and wish to avoid any discussion about how far to the Right, how radical, and how far outside of the mainstream they, themselves, actually are.

2) Dehumanize their Opposition.

3) Make their Opposition seem smaller, and much less diverse than it really is, since it comprises the vast majority, and encompasses all walks of life.

4) Misrepresent what their Opposition believes in, and why they are asking sensitive questions.

5) Distract from the issues and facts, since any discussion of these things would immediately lead to wider condemnation of their agenda, those LIARS and War Criminals they support, and risk growing their Opposition.

They also must do these things because their Propaganda depends on making it seem as if their support is far greater than it is, since they've studied human psychology, in order to use it against the public, and think that if they can reverse the perception of reality - make themselves seem like the majority, and their Opposition some "lunatic fringe" - people will be less likely to support the Opposition.

But their own dishonesty and criminal policies have exposed them once and for all, and people just ain't buying it anymore.

This is much easier to do, of course, when they have such a tightly-controlled, concentrated media network, not to mention CIA Operatives and Hate-mongers such as the discredited Ann Coulter and Bill O'Reilly, who manipulate buzzwords like "liberal", in much the same way as similar intellectually-bankrupt Ideologues, from Hitler to Joseph McCarthy.

Yawn...I would suggest the Left get some b___s and new leaders. It is the case that the American Left has been taken over by a yuppie class so locked into the system that lighting a candle and remaining 'silent' has become a fashion rather than a protest. If you support capitalism, if you support the troops, you support injustice and you support war. You want to be comfortable and be an insider and blame it all on the asshole in the White House who can't even wipe his ass without an OK from the Corporate Reich. Screw your political correctness--people are dying, and getting more and more pissed at us, as we wring our hands and blame it all on Bush while we duck every justice issue related to the problem.
