Media reports in 2004 reported the theft of the rare Ladys slipper orchid from a golf course in Lancaster.Said to be only one of two in the uk.But there was not only another but a field of them in Knowsley. Was is the word.In an unused field left to fallow .Once owned by a kirkby solicitor, and associates. For the purposes of extracting methane gas for domestic consumption. And by public outrage denied. The field became unused.Once recognised as the highest incidence of Pyrimidal orchids per sq metre it found a place on Google maps, not to mention the orchid society. But the best kept secret was the Ladys slippers. An orchid that can only grow if there is a certain fungus present.A fungus not yet identified by science. But it is no more.Why?.Nothing less than ignorence and secrecy.Ignorence that agricultural people, farmers, never saw it for what it was.And secrecy that those that knew never bothered to tell them.Because the solicitor that owned it died suddenly. This site was notified to Knowsley council four years ago. They done nothing at all.Now the field has been deep ploughed and they are gone.
