What's Happening to Housing?

Liverpool IMC | 11.10.2006 05:00 | Social Struggles | Liverpool

Construction work seems to be taking place on every corner of Liverpool city centre, tarting up town in time for the Capital of Culture celebrations in 2008. But within easy walking distance of this rich man's paradise project, squalid homes are being starved of repair money, whilst more than adequate social housing dwellings are torn down. What is the Lib Dem(olition) council's agenda? Why, profits of course! All the rich newcomers will need somewhere to live, so working class people have to pay with their homes! But campaigners are fighting back...

Liverpool does not stand alone

The same company is responsible for the same actions in Carlisle as is happening in Liverpool, except that in Carlisle the Housing is less than 40 Years old, have central heating, double glazing, fitted bathrooms, fitted kitchens and all are surrounded by lovely "Open Spaces" which is exactly why the local Subsiduary of the Liverpool Company wants to knock them down so that they can put even more "New Build" houses up for private sale and vast profits. Carlisle does not suffer the same "Inner City" problems of the bigger Cities yet there are proposals to demolish nearly 700 perfectly good houses in Carlisle as they are apparently "Unfit" for habitation.
