Stand up! Stand up! Stand up for your rights!

Boy Racer | 06.10.2006 12:57 | Repression

Young drivers are being discriminated against and victimised. Well we have had enough!

Our right to drive is under grave threat. In the last year laws have been proposed by former Junior Transport (Minister of State) Ivor Calley TD (Irish for MP/MEP/Congressman, depending on where you live) for our area (Dublin North Central) that would have banned tinted windows, souped up engines and modified exhausts. Others called for even more fascist measures such as night curfews on young drivers under 21's and restricting where young drivers can drive such as motorways, or demanding that young drivers be accompanied at all times by an older person. Some even called for drivers under 21 to be banned from the road full stop. Well we, or at least some us boy racers here in Kilmore West in Coolock on the Northside of Dublin have said enough is enough and we will fight to defend our right to drive by any and all means neccessary, and we are making contact with other boy racing enthuaists around Dublin and getting lots of support. This will probably involve slow-moving cavalcades and blockades. We're also hoping to get support outside the big smoke (Dublin), so that these protests will happen nationwide. That's where Indymedia comes in coz we know a lot of our friends in the boy racing community read Indymedia. We will defend our way of life coz if we don't we're yet another little bit of the way further down the road towards a totalitarian state. If the farmers and the taxi drivers can blockade the streets of Dublin and elsewhere around the country and get away with it then so can we and we will do it have no fear. We're not surrending our freedom to drive where-ever and when-ever we want. If we have to we will cripple Dublin and paralyze the rest of the country as well and we will go to prison if we have to.

Don't give up the fight

Get up, Stand up
Bob Marley

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right (3 times)
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight

Preacher man don't tell me heaven is under the earth
I know you don't know what life is really worth
Is not all that glitters in gold and
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, aay
Stand up for your right. Come on

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
(Repeat)

Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away ev'rything, and make ev'rybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your right, yeah!

Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Get Up, Stand Up. Life is your right
So we can't give up the fight
Stand up for your right, Lord, Lord
Get Up, Stand Up. Keep on struggling on
Don't give up the fight

We're sick and tired of your ism and skism game
Die and go to heaven in Jesus' name, Lord
We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can't fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light
We gonna stand up for our right

So you'd better get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight
Get Up, Stand Up, stand up for your right
Get Up, Stand Up, don't give up the fight.

mmm. i'm not sure you've researched indymedia quite enough for this post. although the libertarian slant of this site may defend rights to do what you want, there tends to be a proviso among most contributors, that what you do doesn't adversely affect others. in an extreme example, although an anarchist might defend your right to act any way you please, he might stop short at condoning murder.

while the planet faces huge problems of climate change due to carbon emissions, causing immense global catastrophe with displaced people, drought, and flooding, and while western foreign policy pursues the unilateral aims of protecting oil sources and revenues through illegal occupation and genocide, i can't see too many indymedia readers defending your right to carry on burning oil and polluting the atmosphere with 'souped up engines' and personal combustion-engine transport, although the tinted windows are probably just fine.

Blockading the streets?

I am sure people on Critical Mass will be interested to learn of drivers blockading the streets, which is what the Mass is sometimes accused of.
