Dear all,
CALL FOR ACTION WEDNESDAY 11TH OCTOBER
The last few days have witnessed dramatic events in the Shell to Sea saga. After being stopped from recommencing work at their proposed refinery site at Bellanaboy for a year and a half by a community picket Shell, supported by large numbers of police, have managed to force their way back onto site.
Almost two hundred police were shipped into the Bellanaboy area early on Tuesday morning where campaigners had continued their picket overnight. Around six thirty am protesters were forcibly dragged from in front of the site gates and held behind crowd control barriers until Shell's workers entered the site for the first time in sixteen months.
The only way Shell have been enabled to restart work at their proposed refinery site has been through the deployment of large-scale state force. The Bellanaboy area has effectively been occupied by police for the last three days. As in Nigeria where the "oil police" violently suppress dissent to Shell's corporate rape, the Irish police have in effect become Shell's own private army of mercenaries protecting the global giant from the community whom they wish to destroy.
Contrary to Shell's predictions the resistance continues. We are as determined as ever to stop this discredited project. This is a fight for survival.
We are calling for solidarity actions.
*Organise a protest at the Irish embassy
*Picket your local Shell station.
*Protest Shell's offices
