. . . . EVEN AS THE "OUTER FRINGE" of "news", sceptical of the tv, wireless or newsprint news - tabloid or broadsheet, even as lots of us have stopped using a lot of it in disgust, its worth passing the message that "mainstream" journalists have woken up to the overall diminishing of ALL newsroom staff numbers.
SEE THE N.U.J site, for the number of sackings is accelerating FAST

- DRESSING THINGS UP AS MOVES TO "PURPOSE-DESIGNED" NEW STRUCTURES -that promise to practically do your thinking for you - in fact - that even look the same as those old designs for prisons - doesnt take away the fact that less thinking time means worse news.
"Production" of four times the amount of pieces each, then the repetition of them over several "platforms" (i.e. internet, tv, different stations, etc) means less research - in fact - much less. The very LACK of background is the "zeitgeist", as everybody expects others to have researched things - worse - even fewer actually CHECK THINGS, even VERY BIG THINGS.
( A small example - that popespeech - a double in the Indy, lots of comment - but the journalist has looked at what OTHERS have written about it, but he hasnt looked at the actual speech.)(few seem to have - in context of the sentence that comes exactly prior to it - its about hearing things you disagree with without getting outraged - whereas the greek thinkers chatty quote at the end - far from claiming that christians have always made sense, seems to accept that a lot of bollocks has got spoken in the name of christianity, with the hope that people might listen - despite that. . . . hey - interpretation - but then, I DID BOTHER TO ACTUALLY LOOK AT IT. (THREE TIMES, in fact ) ( a quibble ? hmmm - the "furore" whipped up by sloppy journalism has meant people have got murdered.)
Regional press titles going to advert heavy freesheets, all the channels WITHOUT news, - it adds up.
For some time, the street that went past parliament had a bookshop that had all sorts of factions magazines, so MP s stayed semi-fooled into thinking the problem of bookshops that tried to allow voters the same marerial to think with were shutting all across the nations. Its shut too.
Waking up to accelerating dynamics AFTER others have shouted about it for ages is either annoying, but in time, or tragic, if you forget to get in touch with them.
JOURNALISTS . . . . INDYMEDIA (ETC)
