So does this mean that my boss has to pay me the higher rate of minimum wage?

Minimum waged

'Minimum waged' - question

Unfortunately, as the law is at the moment, your boss can legally pay you according to age. The minimum wage is going up on October 1, but it will be tiered as in the past.

This law will may be challenged, but that will not be possible in the Employment Tribunal where we represent.

Unlike other forms of discrimination, direct age discrimination will still be allowed under age discrimination law, if it can be 'objectively justified, ' that is, if there is a very good reason.

If a challenge is mounted, the UK government would most likely defend the policy of discriminatory wage rates by saying that the discriminatory minimum wage is designed to deter young adults from leaving education.
