Manchester Labour Party Time To Go Photos 1 of 4

Chris | 24.09.2006 21:51 | Anti-militarism | Sheffield

Photos from the massive anti-war demonstration held in Manchester on 23rd September 2006 prior to the start of the annual Labour Party Conference.

People were not only protesting against the current oil wars in the middle east, justified by the "war on terror". They were against the looming onslaught against Iran and the recent destruction of southern Lebanon. Against the even increasing military expenditure, symbolised by the plan to replace Trident and the corresponding cuts in social funding for the NHS and other welfare services.

Placards identified Bush and Blair as the worlds number 1 and number 2 terrorists and that renewable energy doesn't require wars. There was a large number of trade union and peace movement banners from all across the UK.

Photo 1 - I saw the first photo and had to comment on this. It made me think - Attack of the Clones, all looking in exactly the same direction and carrying the same identikit placards. "We all conform".
Photo 4 - Let's show these Stop the War people something they need to see.
Photo 6 - If you stop conforming we might do something.
Photo 8 - Let's pretend this is a environmental protest.
Photo 10 - Conformity with hats and yellow jackets. Ha Ha Haaaaa!
Photo 11 - Blair is a happy smiling clown not a murdering terrorist. Jesus this is a fun protest!
Photo 12 - Green party message - we are not sure what this protest is about but we like green things like energy.
Respect message - we like to think this is a really strong protest. Push Tony into a tunnel.
Photo 13 - Not sure what we are supposed to be doing but we think we are looking out for something. Maybe terrorists. Our cameras are ready.

"GO" placards - photos 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20. Blair says he is going. We, all, ...came all the way to Manchester to say err... "GO". Boo! Blair look! BOOOOO! GOOO!
BOOOOOOOOOH! Hurgh hurgh hurgh.
Oh my God. How did it come to this.
