Anarchists Against the Wall UK tour - Grassroots in Israel/Palestine

bokonon | 15.09.2006 12:00 | Lebanon War 2006 | Anti-militarism | Palestine | Repression | Social Struggles

The infamous Anarchists Against the Wall, an Israeli direct action group which is committed to joint popular struggle with Palestinians, is sending two representatives on a speaking tour around Europe, with an extensive tour around the UK.

Sarah, an Israeli activist, and Ra'ad a Palestinian activist will talk about the struggle, especially at the village of Bil'in in the West Bank, and show a film. If you are interested in the grassroots response to the occupation on either side of the checkpoints, then check out the dates below for when they arrive at a community centre near you. Bring your friends and family ;) spread the word...

I've only included the times and locations of the events i could get online info on, if anyone has more info then please post it.

Here's an unofficial homepage of the group, though it doesn't reveal much:

 http://www.squat.net/antiwall/

The AAW are mostly non-violent, and as anarchists have no support for Hamas (as an Islamic party) or the PLO (I'd imagine at least, since the PLO used murderous tactics on civilians). I don't think there is much more to say than that, since they are an action-oriented organisation with no platform or manifesto, their ideals and opinions will have to be interpretted from their actions. As for suicide bombing, I do not think it comes under direct action, unless your goal is to arbitrarily kill as many people as possible. If your goal is creating a Palestinian state, then suicide bombing is most definitely not direct action. If your goal is to dismantle the wall, then dismantling the wall is direct action. =)

Hey, me and some comrades want to book a tour date in London, do you have any contact details for whoever is doing the bookings? I'll be watching this page.
Thanks.

sounds good. a question tho? what is yr groups opinion on hamas,PLO etc. do you work with these groups? Secondly, do you consider 'suicide bombing' a form of direct action?

Hey,
im not at all in charge of organising the tour, i just got forwarded some scant details by a friend of mine in the AAW in israel. All i can say is that there seems to be a free day after brighton so possibly theyd be free then, and perhaps you should contact brighton ISM whose contact can be found here:  http://www.brightonpalestinecampaign.org/takeaction.html or Liecester PSC. Good luck organising london, its a huge shame if its missed out. Ill try and check this page in the next couple of days to see whats happened

As for their possition on things, i would really recomend going and meeting them, the last time we had someone from their group come down to my uni, talking about israel, being queer and the no state solution, it led to a really good discussion. Theyre really fucking good people and theyre working non stop with palestinian villages in their own campaigns. Im not sure what theyd say about Hamas. Go meet them.
