Camp Titnore Eviction

When is it likely this week or later?

Why has the eviction not happened?

Because the cops have been busy at the Islamic school in Crowborough apparently. It's rumoured however to be happening any time after Wednesday this week (Sept 13).

Background:

Titnore Woods are one of Sussex coastal plain’s last remaining ancient woodlands facing the bulldozers of Tescos, and housing developers Heron, Persimmon Homes and Taylor Woodrow.

Protestors have held out for almost four months with support from local residents in Durrington, Worthing and beyond. The camp faces eviction following the loss of the appeal at the High Court on Aug 29, despite representation from Green Party barrister Hugo Charlton.

The development for 850 houses and a new Tesco hypermarket is not quite a done deal. Conservation group, the Worthing Society, is calling for a judicial review. Road wrangles, a 10% concession for community facilities yet to be agreed, and protected species such as dormice, bats and badger, are further legal obstacles.

As one of only two ancient woodlands surviving on the coastal plain - the other Binsted Woods at Arundel is also threatened by development – it is vital to defend it to the last.
