Police hypocrisy at Drax

I was overwhelmed by the appalling attitude of the police 'escorting' the march from the climate camp to Drax. It was a pointless power display.
My story consists of an interaction with a policeman, which I think is a perfect illustration of the hypocrasy in the police.
I was in the kids block, comprising of a few hundred adults, including a number of people in wheelchairs and children of various ages. The police penned us in from the start to the finish, always controlling our direction and to a certain extent pace.
Later on I was walking back to the camp and was on a small country road when a police car came up behind me, I did not move out of the road and he drove alongside me on the verge and asked if I wanted to be arrested? And I replied for what and he said for obstructing the public highway- I was outraged because this was exactly what they had been doing to us for 6 hours!
And yet when we asked policemen why they were obstructing us they replied because they can!
Ridiculous!!!

Moving down a highway (non-motorway though) on foot does not require you to move anywhere for passing cars. You are a road user if there is no provided pavement - a verge does not count.
The officer in question obviously had an ego the size of a mountain and a lack of knowledge of law, and rules of the road.
In the least, I would make a formal complaint (not an informal one, as this will get no-where) as this will damage the forces precious statistics.
