A peace camp set up to protest the use of a Suffolk airbase for transporting weapons to the Lebanon conflict has closed after being declared a success by organisers.
Mildenhall peace camp, which was open for a month, was dismantled after two new peace groups were founded in the area off the back of the initiative.
The camp was founded in protest ay the movement of arms through US airbases in the UK, to Israel during the Lebannon conflict. But Mell, from local group Theatre of War, said the camp was only the start of campaigning.
She said: "A big thank you to all of you who supported the recent peace camp at Mildenhall, with out you all it would not have been possible. But we need to keep up the pressure and presence!"
A new national event is next in line for the anti war movement on October 1st (see easf events listings for full details). Speakers at the event at Lakenheath, Suffolk will include Jeremy Corbyn MP, Bruce Kent, and Kate Hudson.
"It would be great if we could get coaches, mini buses, car loads, train loads, critical masses and pedestrians to come to RAF (USAF ) Lakenheath in out hundreds to show our opposition to the illegal and immoral nuclear B-61 free fall NATO bombs in Suffolk." Mell added.
