Video of Drax looking pretty shut down actually!
imc | 31.08.2006 22:23 | Climate Camp 2006 | Climate Chaos
When we looked at the footage of the power station, it started to be clear that some things were distinctly not normal. Rail access blocked [yes by the police but it still counts] , grinders for scooping coal not rotating, and minimal smoke coming out.

As for minimal smoke, Drax might be coal fired (for now) but it is the cleanest coal fired power station in the UK, try looking at any other power station if you want to look for smoke!!
Maybe you should research your facts a bit more indepth before make fools of yourself. Pro-action rather than re-action is the best way, so go buy your own mini wind turbine then you wouldnt need Drax's power
i love Drax

Trains stopped. Yes the trains were stopped - but by the security forces , the station & the train operators. They were stopped to prevent injury to any potential trespasser who may have accidently colided with rolling stock. The station does NOT need a continous feed of trains to function. Infact there are enough stock levels onsite to operate the station for months without a single train arriving / departing site.
Coal grinders - these are actually bucket wheel machines - there are 2 on site and each is capable of stocking out and reclaiming. Neither machine has to operate continously even when there are no trains so seeing the bucket wheels stopped did not indicate that anything untoward was happening - they only operate when required. The station has coal bunkers that carry several hours worth of coal - so once they are full - the station can operate quite happily without any coal flow from any source.
Smoke from chimney. The video footage actually pointed at the smaller gas turbine chimney - yes there are several of them too. The gas turbines only operate very very occassionally for a variety of reasons so the lack of smoke was highly normal - in fact you were on the day they had actually operated for several weeks. If you viewed the main stack you would have noticed it was very much business as normal.
Also,
Claims made that a slag processing machine was stopped. There are no such machines - there are 2 Boomstackers which do stock out pfa at barlow - but guess what these hardly run now especially in the summertime as the majority of pfa is sold and taken off site for a variety of reasons so losing either of the machines is not a worry to Drax. The only reason 1 machine was running was for maintenence testing reasons. The machine was shut down to prevent potential harm to any unauthorised person on the machine. The other machine was on summer shutdown for maintanance too.
Just thought I set the records straight - and yes I do know what I'm talking about - I know Drax well through a reliable source.

People involved in the camp have done much research, and thought well and long about targets, why etc etc. A bit of solidarity & respect is due, or go somewhere else to snipe.

THE ACTION WAS SUCCESSFUL!!! a thousand cheers to all those activists who felt it was necessary to be at Selby and make their point. The camp worked brilliantly, there were countless examples of the neighbourhoods working together to ensure the activists were looked after and fed and therefore the camp was a two fingered salute to all those who think autonomous spaces don't work.
