Subcritical Nukes...

The National Nuclear Security Administration (Nevada Site Office) has plenty on subcritical nukes, however yesterday's test is not up yet. The February Karakatoa tests are up, complete with videos - watch 'n' learn!

Any parrots out there might like this:

 http://www.nv.doe.gov/library/films/other.aspx?ID=152

"This video clip shows the process of lowering the Krakatau subcritical experiment package underground at the U1a facility, connecting it to the diagnostics rack and lowering the experimental package into a hole drilled into the floor of the tunnel at U1a. Marbles, gravel and grout (cement) are backfilled into the hole to absorb the shock from the high explosives and seal radiation in the floor of the tunnel."

There is another video clip of the test, however don't be too upset if you don't get to see a Krakatoa sized nountain get itself vapourised - 'nothing to see here!'...

That said, the historical videos are fascinating, like where interceptor nukes are sent up to hit an incoming ICBM, just to test the effects on radar....

Enjoy!
