Mass Action Against Drax Underway

imc reports | 31.08.2006 08:29 | Climate Camp 2006 | Climate Chaos

This morning just after 9am, the mass action set off from the climate camp in a colourful noisy carnival style parade, after having assembled in the centre of the camp.

There were various different groups including a kids bloc with a banner reading "The Kids are Revolting!", a samba band, a bloc of people in white overalls and white dust masks with a banner reading "You Must Be Choking", a bicycle bloc, a group of the rebel clown army and a giant ostrich puppet (a reference to people burying their heads in the sand while climate change continues apace).

Other banners read "Decentralise Power", "Stop this Madness", "Drax The Killer" and "History Will Spit on us". Eventually people left the camp through the main entrance forming a larger bloc of around 400 people.

At the same time several smaller affinity groups were leaving the camp through different directions, as well as the white overall bloc which also split off from the main group, bringing the total of protestors to around 600. Meanwhile others were heading towards Drax from other locations.

Overnight the camp had been calm and the early morning was marked by torrential rain lasting several hours. Police partolled the perimeter of the camp, but made no further attempts to enter.

More later.

children's revolution

Congratulations on massive media coverage on all TV channels and in all newspapers. Thank you for the banner "The kids are revoltimg!" The Children's Revolution group (Angel's department) would like to suggest that you hold an open day for all members of the public and the press and the television on the site of the Camp for Climate Action on Saturday. You could invite everyone to meet all the campaigners and see for themselves what it is really all about. As you might have realised the kids' bloc is the Children's Revolution. If you ask them if they would like to invite everyone including the news media to meet them, and they agree to this you can send out the invitation in their name. You can ask Raga the Rainbow Quaker to organise a Children's Revolution disco with the Clandestine Clowns and the Rhythms of Resistance and put out the message that it is all about saving future generations from extinction. (This is what we did at the 2005 G8 Stirling eco village). You are very welcome to use the slogans "Children's Revolution" and "Can You Save the Human Race?" on banners if you like. Essential phone numbers for media invitation: Press Association 02079637000 Reuters UK 02072501122 BBC news 02086249001 ITN news 02078333000 Sky news 02077053232 American Associated Press TV 02074105200. Thank you and good luck.
