Protesters outside the 'Great' British Circus, were met by two families, who
were visibly upset at what they had just witnessed inside the Big Top,
today, Saturday 26th August. One woman said she was particularly concerned
at how the horses were treated. Both families said that they would contact
the Captive Animals' Protection Society with further details.

Before the second performance of the day, two families decided not to buy
tickets and drove out of the car park. They read leaflets and listened
to the truth about the GBC and didn't want to support animal abuse. One of
these families stopped and protesters spoke with them. They also said that
they would contact CAPS about their decision.

At one point, a circus worker (a self-declared ex-elephant trainer) tried to
grab the megaphone from a protester, but was left in no uncertain terms
about the error of his ways!

Coupled with very few cars in the car park, it was not a very successful day
for Martin Lacey's GBC. Also, unfortunately for the circus, they have been
told that they can no longer use the speakers fitted to the ticket office
(often playing a very loud running commentary about the circus, together
with tacky circus music) because it constitutes a public nuisance! However,
protesters continued to use a megaphone for the duration of the protest,
which obviously caused the circus some degree of annoyance.

Thank you to all protesters attending this demo, including supporters from
Southend Animal Aid.

The GBC moves to Corringham next week.
