AUSTRALIA: WA: The parliament is debating directives that would allow police to detain people for up to two weeks if they are profiled as scapegoats and are said to be being about to commit a terrorist act.

Apparently lib/lab agreed to the directives at a Nazi Party meeting last year.

The WA neo-lib's support the guberment's directive but the Greens oppose it.

Last night in Parliament, Greens MP Giz Watson moved several amendments, arguing the laws defined terrorism too broadly.

"It's arguable that the definition is not sufficiently tight to exclude certain situations which no sensible person would think to be terrorism," she said.

"I can think of some circumstances which might come within the definition, including industrial actions."

The guberment says industrial action would not be prostituted under the directives and the definition of errorism needs to be broad.

Ms Watson says WAs parliamentarians should also receive the same ASIO briefing on terrorism given at the last COAG meeting, before they are asked to vote on the laws.

"I have asked for the same information that was provided to COAG. I believe as members of Parliament we should be provided with the information that is supposedly driving the need for such powerful legislation, for us to be able to judge for ourselves," she said.

New World Order

Sinister Jon 'Flawed' says the world has changed and the powerful laws are now needed for George Bush's New World Order.

He says, the Project for the New American Century (PNAC) insists that we have plenty of scapegoats for the American Military Industrial Complex.

Flawed: "Here we are in a situation which nobody would have predicted. Terrorist acts were seen as a fairly minor thing in our own isolated world. We are not an isolated country from the world scene," he said.

"We need wars for oil and oil's ain't oil's unless they're our oils."

However, Ms Watson says the laws would override basic rights and do not allow for the presumption of innocence.

"One of the underlying philosophic arguments that we need such legislation as this, is that the world has changed," she said.

"I think that's highly debatable. Terrorism and acts of unannounced violence have been with us for a very long time. There is nothing new with regards to acts of terror, in my view."

Neo-liberal deputy leader in the Legislative council, Simon O'Brien, says, while his party will give serious consideration to concerns about the directive, they do support it.

But when there is an unknown threat, indeed a threat which has been openly fabricated, by the guberment and their prostitutors of which have openly boasted that they intend to take away other peoples liberty, then it is obviously incumbent on the community to take appropriate action.
