Mildenhall Peace Camp

plunk | 15.08.2006 15:00 | Anti-militarism | Cambridge

A peace camp has been established at RAF (ha ha its actually USAF) Mildenhall. After Israeli arms fights were diverted from Prestwich they ended up at Mildenhall. A peace camp has been setup just off the A1101 next to the base. Phone 07760 171655 for more details.

The peace camp was setup on Sunday (13/08/06) in the evening. The police seem not too worried but the US military are. Lots of local interest and support but we still need people - particulary weekday nights.
We have a kitchen/ welcome tent and tent for workshops / briefing. Lots of stuff needed including solar power for laptops / mobile phone recharging.
Monday night the USAF we had a Hurcules (C130) looping over the camp and almost touching the trees. There has been a massive increace in activity over the last couple of weeks according to local people.
The base is responsible for air-to-air refuelling for things such as Fairford bombers going to Iraq and the attack on Libya in 1986 as well as recent redition flights (it is home to special operations) and transport of arms to the Iraq theatre.
For more information call 07760161755.

RAF Mildenhall, Not USAF

15.08.2006 19:57

It is RAF Mildenhall. It is an RAF base and the USAF operate from inside the RAF base which is owned by the UK Ministy of Defence (MOD). All the signs outside say RAF Mildenhall and the same is true fro the nearby RAF Lakenehath, also occupied by the USAF.

Any chance of a annex peacecamp at Lakenheath soon?

15.08.2006 20:02

Be good to see an annex peace camp at Lakenheath base in the future. That base is totally out of control and they have still not reopened our British road (Lords Walk) that they close in after 11 Sept 2001.

Good luck. I am a local and fully behind what you are doing, both politically and to get the USAF out of this country.

Thank you.

Well done to all of you who are out at the peace camp or have supported it in any way. This is such important work. Keep it up!

I'm attaching a photo I got on Sunday of part of the camp (thanks Joanna).
