A website containing allegations against senior council bosses has closed...for now.

The blog - which could be read at  http://liverpool-evil-cabal.blogspot.com/ - was seen by thousands of people, and got a great publcity boost when Liverpool City Council blocked the site on town hall computers.

The website, supposedly compiled by 'Tony Parrish', who lists his occupation as 'whistle-blower' and interests as 'victory', had a humorous tone.

The blog was named after a comment by Cllr Mike Storey in a dossier of e-mails between him and ex-media chief Matt Finnegan, which led to him standing down as council leader.

It focused on alleged conduct by three town hall officials, former chief executive Sir David Henshaw, resources director Phil Halsall and Dr David Mc-Elhinney, managing director of Liverpool Direct call centre.

But it also heavily criticised the council's approach to Capital of Culture, the departure of artistic director Robyn Archer and an investigation into council contracts with private firms Enterprise and BT.

Parrish's final entry read: "The blog is signing off for the moment, for reasons which will soon become obvious and public.

"We have been promised that there will now be a proper investigation into the allegations which have been made on this blog.

"As you know, the evidence has already been presented to the new chief executive of Liverpool City Council, Mr Colin Hilton.

"This is a magnificent victory for freedom of speech and for truth, justice and democracy.

"The blog still has a lot more to tell you.

"And, unless we see the promises kept, with decisive and proper action being taken within the next few days, we will be back. Bigger and better than ever."
