On Monday evening, Israeli war planes hit close to to the heart of Beirut, killing at least 38 and wounding dozens. The attack was about one kilometer further north than any previous bombings in Beirut, in the suburb of Chiah. There were two huge explosions, an apartment building collapsed and rescuers frantically searched the rubble for survivors. The blasts took place on what was once known as the Green Line that divided Beirut’s Christian and Muslim communities.
