UK Pro-Democracy Movement Launched Today

CIVIL LIBERTIES ALLIANCE LAUNCHED TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY
Using the excuse to combat terrorism and crime the Labour government has wiped out many of our civil liberties and we let them do it. NOT ANY MORE.
(Note: UK Pro-Democracy Movement utterly condemns terrorism whether by individuals or the state).
We announce the launch of a new initiative to stop governments from eroding or destroying our civil liberties and democracy.
The UK Pro-Democracy Movement seeks
1. to stop the present government’s programme of taking civil liberties
2. to ensure that rights eroded by previous legislation be returned to us
3. a constitution that forbids governments from taking our rights in the future.
Many people are frightened and angry when civil liberties we have enjoyed for hundreds of years are taken from us by governments who care so little for our rights. It is time to take action now.
Benjamin Franklin summed up well what we all feel:
“Those willing to give up essential liberty in order to obtain temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety”.
ANTI-TERROR LAWS USED TO DISMANTLE CIVIL LIBERTIES
We, along with people from all the main political parties, religious leaders, Liberty and many others, are not convinced that the government’s fight against terrorism works better by taking away the rights of innocent people. Currently, anti-terror laws are used to stop animal rights and anti-war protestors from peacefully demonstrating.
Many activists are held for days in police cells, after peaceful protests, and released without charge, under anti-terror laws. That means law-abiding people will have been photographed, fingerprinted and have been subjected to DNA tests, unlawfully detained and then let go with no charges having been brought against them. This is called state bullying!
IT IS TIME TO STOP THE ROT
For those people who care about our (surviving) freedoms and democracy, we urge you to write to your MP and local press and join the UK Pro-Democracy Movement. Together we can stop the government dismantling our rights.
