Stop the Attacks on Lebanon and Gaza - Nottingham Protests
TomU | 09.08.2006 22:29 | Lebanon War 2006 | Anti-militarism
As the attacks continue and the Israeli incursions into Lebanon intensify the need for open and vocal protests intensifies. Last Saturday demonstrations across the world - including in Tel Aviv (see the report below) - called for an end to the violence. There is an urgent need to make solidarity with peace activists in Lebanon, Israel and Palestine both to show our support and put pressure on Parliament to call for an immediate cease-fire. Please join the demonstration.

Biggest anti-war demo yet in Tel Aviv
Gush Shalom (who are known not to make exaggerations on such things) report the biggest anti-war march of the present war yesterday, 5th August, in Tel Aviv, Israel. 10,000 marched in spite of difficulties in movement around Israel and the war hysteria with physical attacks on the marchers. Proportionate to population this is equivalent to a demonstration of 100,000 in the UK.
'During the march, the demonstrators shouted (in Hebrew): "Jews and Arabs / refuse to be enemies!" - "We shall not die nor kill / in the service of the USA!" - "Children want to live / in Beirut and Haifa!" - "Peretz, Peretz resign / peace is more important!" - "A million refugees / that's a war crime!" - "Olmert, Peretz and Ramon / Get out of Lebanon!"
The two most popular stickers were Gush Shalom's "Bring the Soldiers Home" and the Israeli-Palestinian Bereaved Families' Forum's "It will not End Until we Talk!"
