Seven anti war activists were arrested at 6pm this afternoon as they lay ‘dead’ in the road outside Downing Street in a protest to demand an unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.
Four men and three women from peace group, Justice-Not-Vengeance (JNV) symbolically lay, surrounded by children victims’ shoes that were dumped by protesters angry at Blair’s refusal to demand an unconditional ceasefire between Israel and Hizbollah. They were arrested on charges of obstruction of the highway, and have since been bailed.
One of those arrested, Alex George, explained, “We could no longer just come home each day from work to switch on our TV sets and watch child after child being dragged from the rubble with our government’s complicity. It is time for a ceasefire and that means an end to the criminal acts of both Israel and Hizbollah.”
