The protest was not only against the brutal overreaction of Israel to Hizbullah's rocket attacks but also against Tony Blair’s duplicity in refusing to call for an immediate ceasefire. It was felt important that people are made aware of the fact that the heartless line taken by our Prime Minister is at odds with the vast majority of the British public.

Palestinian products were offered for sale with the money raised going directly back to the refugee camps and money was also raised for the British Red Cross appeal for Southern Lebanon.

Swansea’s castle (Its self a victim of aerial bombing in WWII) was bedecked with Palestinian and Lebanese flags and placards showing the horrific injuries suffered by Lebanese civilians were placed along the roadside.

About a dozen of the protestors stayed for 24 hours in order to get just the slightest feel of what hundreds of thousands of Lebanese are suffering having been displaced from their homes, however sleeping out in central Swansea offered one peril not seen in war torn Beirut, hassle with drunks!

Protesters plan to return next Tuesday for a repeat sleepover, please join them!
