Dutch/Belgium EarthFirst! set up treetop camp in Belgium.

Monday night Earthfirst activists occupied woodlands surrounding an old fortress in Borsbeek. Both the fortress and the surrounding woodlands represent a fine piece of nature supervised by local ‘Natuurpunt Schijnvallei’.
The woodlands are threatened to be cut due to plans to emerge the nearby business-jet airport Deurne-Antwerpen.

The campers – many of which involved in earlier tree top camps in Schinveld ( http://www.direkte-aktie.net/cms/groenfront.php?catid=17&blogid=2 ) and Brugge (Lappersfort) (  http://www.ggf.be/lappersf/lappersfort.htm) - are supporting the locals, whom have been trying for years already to put a halt to the plans.
The cutting was supposed to start today, however a first success seems to be made, working all night the campers had built three tree house structures by Tuesday morning when a group of 7 both local and federal police officers came by to check upon the activities.
No machinery was brought in yesterday, so most probably cutting will not take place today and seems to have been delayed.
Although rainy weather conditions many locals visited the camp to show their appreciation and bring supplies like food, rope, blankets and so on.
Nevertheless the first shock-effect a occupation inflicts there seems to be a lot of goodwill for the campers already.
