One of the most bizarre criticisms (of Rice) came from Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Chávez stated that: "It appears she's (Rice) dreaming about me (Chávez)." Chávez stated that Rice's problems with him were a product of sexual frustration and added "I could invite her on a date to see what happens between us" but that he would not "make that sacrifice" for his country and instead nominated three political allies to "do it".[100] In another speech, Chávez dismissed Rice as a "true illiterate" and asked Fidel Castro to mail to her samples of books that Venezuela is using, with Cuban support, for literacy education, to "see if she learns to respect the dignity of the people and learns a bit about us."
