CALL OUT TO ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN SOCIAL CENTRES:

SOCIAL CENTRES NETWORK MEETING AT THE CLIMATE CAMP 28TH AUGUST (DATE TBC - might be tuesday)

After a first, packed meeting in January in Leeds at the Common Place Social Centre, there is an opportunity for those involved in social centres to meet again at this years climate camp in august - to share stories, experiences, skills, strengthen the network and organise for the future. There are now about 20 radical, self managed social spaces across the UK and the number grows!

We have booked a session for the social centres network at the climate camp. This is ours to collectively run.

This is a call out to:

a. get people to feel some collective ownership over it.
b. start thinking about how we can use this time

WHAT WE HAVE BOOKED:

2 workshops on mon aug 28th at the climate camp.

the first one is one hour and is an 'intro to social centres' and open to all

the second is 2 hours and is a business meeting (still open to all)

WHAT WE NEED:

a. commitment to come to this session if you can, and contribute.

b. for the first intro session it would be good if people can come and tell inspiring stories about their social centres, bring photos etc. Stu and Paul from the common place have got a display we did here at leeds and will bring as well as ideas for a short intro session.

c. an agenda for the business meeting. this is really key as it will help get the network up and working. for starters I’ve included what i know people already want to discuss, but please post other suggestions:

** a regular (ie every three months) social centres gathering

** a portal website for all the social centres (a draft has been done and will be presented for feedback)

** creating a proper inter-centre discussion list

** better networking and sharing events/resources/actions

** putting together a pamphlet about UK social centres 'the story so far'

To contribute to this discussion and post comments, agenda items, please subscribe to the list below (very low traffic) or just come to the meeting. If you cant come, please post any stuff you want to be discussed.

Look forward to seeing you all there.
Paul ( p.chatterton@leeds.ac.uk)
