NOISE DEMO AT DALLAS COURT
North West Asylum Seekers Defence Group | 22.07.2006 09:54 | Anti-racism | Migration
On Friday 21 July, anti deportation activists and asylum seekers protested outside Dallas Court Reporting Centre. With chants of "close down Dallas Court", "End British state racism! Defend all asylum seekers!" and "Fight Racism! Fight Deportations!"
From 12 noon to 2pm NWASDG, the Defend Kalombo Campaign and Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! held a noise demo outside Dallas Court Reporting centre. This was a loud, noisy, highly spirited and motivated protest, despite the staff who work at Dallas Court trying to scare protesters away. With chants of "close down Dallas Court", "End British state racism! Defend all asylum seekers!" and "Fight Racism! Fight Deportations!", this caught the attention of those passing. Asylum seekers who were signing on, where motivated into staying and supporting the protest, after signing on.
With Labour's racist immigration laws getting more and more repressive each time a new one is passed, the need for supporting asylum seekers, and protest against all immigration controls becomes more and more important and imperitive. People are forced to report from places such as Stoke, from every day to once a month. If they are lucky, they are given £40 electronic vouchers, which can ONLY be used at ASDA.
Reporting Centres, such as Dallas Court, are in reality 'kidnapping centres'. When people come to sign on, they run the risk of being kidnapped, and sent to a detention centre such as Yarls Wood. Only this Monday (17 July) a 62-year-old Iranian woman, with mental health difficulties, who was signing on, was kidnapped from Dallas Court, before being sent to Yarls Wood Detention Centre. Yarls Wood are currently saying they do not know where she is. This is not a isolated incident. This is a regular accorence at Dallas Court.
The protests outside Dallas Court are currently being held on a monthly basis, with the next one being held on Friday 18th July at 12pm.
