Emergency picket of the Mexican embassy in London on Friday 14 July to protest the electoral fraud against PRD candidate Lopez Obrador.

A group of protestors gathered outside the Mexican Embassy in St Georges St in London at 1 pm today, Friday, 14th July to protest against the rigging of the Mexican presidential election to exclude Lopez Obrador from office.

The message on the placards was clear. "STOP THE FRAUD! Recount the votes.More were expected to arrive later to support the picket, but I had to take my pictures and leave for another appointment.

While I was there, there was no sign of police presence, and those inside the embassy ignored the protest.

Protesters blast Mexican poll 'fraud'

14.07.2006 16:56

Solidarity campaigners converged on the Mexican embassy in London yesterday to protest against "blatant vote-rigging" and other alleged fraud in the country's recent presidential election.

Demonstrators were supporting the demand of left-wing opposition canditate Andres Miguel Lopez Obrador for the electoral authorities to recount every vote by hand, which they have refused so far to do.

Mr Obrador announced at a massive rally of supporters last week that he had evidence of widespread fraud, including video of a ruling party election worker stuffing ballots into boxes.

MPs including Jeremy Corbyn signed an early day motion yesterday, which noted "the continuing uncertainty and widespread perception of electoral malpractice arising from the recent presidential election in Mexico."

The motion also calls on the Mexican authorities "to do everything in their power to ensure the credibility and accuracy of the poll."
