Fight for British Jobs: Nationwide Protest This Saturday!
Luke Blackburn | 13.07.2006 17:11 | Workers' Movements
Car maker PEUGEOT have sacked 2000 workers, and are planning on uprooting their production plant to Eastern Europe, so that they can pay workers far less money and make them work in appalling health and safety conditions.
This Saturday there will be a nationwide protest against the company at Peugeot Garages and Centres accross the country, led by the T&G and Amicus Trade Unions. Come along to fight for British Workers and British Jobs.
No matter what your opinions on the car industry may be, it is important to let these multi-national firms know that it is not OK to sack people willy nilly and make other workers do the same job for far worse money and in far worse conditions.

British Jobs? British Workers?
13.07.2006 22:22
I found the post above suspect. I support workers struggles including those workers that face unemployment and poverty like I have had to endure but what does the author mean by "British workers and British Jobs" ? Sounds nationalist to me. There are alot of people in the UK that weren't born here but are nonetheless part of an international class of workers/producers who are exploited by capital, there should not be any imposition of an imaginary community like "British". Any attempts to give active solidarity to these 2,000 workers should be on class lines or nothing.

Why "No matter what your opinions on the car industry"?

The list is endless.
We should no more lament job losses in the car industry as we would in the arms industry. The automobile symbolises everything that is wrong with globalised consumer capitalism, so if you do have a job in the car industry (British or otherwise) do yourself a favour and quit before it’s too late.
