Invasion of Gaza - Sheffield Emergency Protest

Sheffield PCS | 06.07.2006 13:13 | Anti-militarism | Repression | Social Struggles | Sheffield

Sheffield Town Hall Steps

Please join our protest against the illegal actions of the Israeli Government and army. We are also protesting about the British government’s refusal to condemn Israeli actions and its continued failure to help the Palestinian people or help build towards a just peace.

For the 1.4 million people living in the open air prison camp of Gaza the already appalling living conditions have worsened dramatically since the new, illegal assault. There is little food or fuel in the shops of Gaza. People are terrified to leave their homes after the Israeli army dropped leaflets telling residents to avoid moving in the area because of military activity.

The continuing overnight shelling and sonic booms are a clear example of the collective punishment Israel is using to terrorise innocent civilian Palestinians. Other Palestinians in Northern Gaza have been told to ‘start packing’ as today Israel embarks upon its reoccupation of that area.

* We are also calling on all our supporters to contact their MPs urgently, calling on them to demand the British government condemn these illegal and disproportionate Israeli actions. It will only take a couple of minutes to write to your MP via the Sheffield PSC resource page:  http://www.sheffieldpsc.org.uk/drupal/contact_your_representatives

An appeal from the 2006 Peace Cycle for a Support Vehicle

The Peace Cycle is in urgent need of two support vehicles from the beginning of August, when the London to Jeruslam Peace Cycle sets off. Four Sheffield PSC members will be joining the first leg of the cycle ride.

We need a long wheel based, high top or Luton box type vehicle. Suitable vehicles include: Mercedes Sprinter, VWlt31, Ford transit. Left hand drive would be even better! Also needed - an estate car, such as Ford Sierra.

We have a limited budget to buy vehicles, although a donated or loaned vehicle would obviously be great. If you can help at all, please contact either  hilarysmith@blueyonder.co.uk or  sheridan@thepeacecycle.org. Further information:  http://www.thepeacecycle.org/
