DISCONTENT manifesto

A CALL TO ARMS

Summer in Sheffield is a washout. There is nothing for us to do. Nothing. No festivals, boutique or otherwise. No outdoor gigs. No opportunities to get off it. Summer in Sheffield means classic car rallies, family fun days, kids eating ice cream and patting goats. Not good enough.

So we have to do something about it. This is the Summer of Discontent.

We're going to produce posters every week. They will detail something to do for every weekend over the summer. Something amazing for every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We want to link up all the independent, amazing things that are going to happen anyway: gigs, nights, and clubs. Tell people about it. But more than this, we want to create something bigger. We want people to put on special events for the summer. Factory tours, painting jams, acoustic gigs, guerilla cinema. And, of course, lots and lots of parties.

We want to create a feeling, an anti-festival, something big in people's heads. We want to be starting something.

So we need your help. We need you to get involved. Let us know what you're doing so that we can put it on the poster. Or, if you're not doing anything, then do something special. Al fresco pub quizzes, art shows, new magazines, sleep outs, camp fires. Adventures. Don't ask for permission. Big or small, free or not, just do it.

Sheffield isn't about hallam FM and ice cream vans. Our city has the best independent, cutting edge culture in the world. So we need to show it. We need to get our Sheffield out onto the streets. Do it ourselves, again. Take the city back.

Now is the Summer of our Discontent.
