Join us for a fortnightly film and discussion night
At the Common Place, Wharf Street (off Kirkgate) Leeds City Centre

Wednesday 5th July 7pm: “Arnas Children”

Arna Mer Khamis was a legendary Israeli activist against the occupation. Born Jewish, she married a Palestinian and spent her life campaigning for human rights. In the Jenin refugee camp, Arna opened a theatre where, with her son Juliano, she taught children to express themselves through art. When Arna died of cancer in 1995, the theater ultimately did not survive. Five years later, Juliano, one of the region's leading actors, returns to discover what happened to 'Arna's Children.'

Wednesday 19th July 7pm: “Visit Palestine”

& a presentation from an ISM activist about the work of human rights activists in Hebron.

Human Rights in Hebron, never possible with Hamas

30.06.2006 14:47

I include the right of the people to choose their sexuality free of persecution as a basic Human right and that will never be possible as long as Hamas rules Palestine.

Perhaps your "human rights" defenders want to raise this issue with them? Or are you afraid of being shot?

I wonder if there'll be any films about honour killings in palestinian controlled areas.

I wonder????

I wonder if there will ever be any films about the KKK in America, the lynching of blacks or a film on how Mormons can have multiple marriages.

I wonder if anyone will ever do a film on the women who die as a result of domestic violence here in the UK, child abuse, alcoholism, illiteracy and I wonder if anyone will do a film about the amount of old people who die each year as a result of the cold.

I wonder if anyone will ever do a film on how Al-Qieda was established and held a good relationship with Saudi Arabia, how the US funded Mr. bin Ladens friends to fight the Soviet Union, or a film on how we armed, supplied and gave Saddam Hussain his weapons of mass destruction during the 1980's.

I wonder if anyone will do a film on several facts such as the US and UK governments did not give a crap that Iraqi's were dying during the 1980's, that Kurds were being gassed, that people were being rounded up and killed for opposing Saddam.

But hey, I suppose some things may be to much to ask.
