REFUGEE BENEFIT GIG (in aid of NCADC)
Thu 20th July 2006
The Magnet, Hardman Street, Liverpool
Doors open 8pm

Four of the North West’s brightest upcoming musical talents will be uniting in support of the region’s refugees at a special fundraising benefit concert in Liverpool next month.

Liverpool’s impressive ‘art popsters’ Santa Carla, indie sensations Fayze Two, acoustic singer songwriter Alun Parry, and Manchester’s Silent Partners line up in a bid to save the National Coalition of Anti Deportation Campaigns from extinction.

The organisation, which offers free advice and campaigning support to people facing deportation, is facing a £20,000 deficit, which it needs to meet to survive.

Local radical songwriter Alun Parry, who is organising the event said: “The line-up promises a great night for music fans, and a way to show support for people facing the horrendous prospect of deportation.”

The benefit gig takes place at Liverpool’s well-known music venue The Magnet in Hardman Street, on Thursday 20th July 2006. Doors open at 8pm. Entry is £5 waged, £4 unwaged, and free for asylum seekers.

Further details about the acts:

Santa Carla are one of Liverpool’s most successful bands. Their latest EP Earworms mixes arresting melodies, zen-like vocal harmonies and some decidedly twisted lyrics.

Fayze Two are due for 3 days in the recording studio after finishing runners up in a recent Battle of the Bands contest, beating off competition from 150 rival bands.

Alun Parry delivers foot stomping gritty acoustic anthems with lyrics that are insightful and hard hitting. He is also the resident host of the successful Second Tuesday unsigned event in the city.

Silent Partners are one of Manchester’s most popular bands, recently
playing to 10,000 people at the Get Loaded Festival in London. Their
forerunner (Northside) was signed to the famous Factory Records label.

Line up change for Refugee Gig

06.07.2006 09:27

Hi

Quick lineup change for this gig.

We no longer have Santa Carla or Silent Partners but we have superb replacements.

Amsterdam were one of John Peel's favourite bands and Elvis Costello says (rightly!) that they are incredible. Front man Ian Prowse joins us for an acoustic set of some of Amsterdam's classic tracks.

Liverpool six piece The Mojave Colelctive also join us. They are one of Liverpool's most popular bands with their genre mixing style and winning songs.

See you there

Al
