ALDERMASTON: Join us for a big blockade
jk | 19.06.2006 12:17 | Anti-militarism
Corporate war profiteers and their military masters are building new nuclear weapons facilities at Britain's nuclear bomb factory.
Over the past twelve months there have been regular (and recently, monthly) blockades of the Aldermaton site (hunt around imcuk or see http://www.aldermaston.net/news for previous news items), with people from all over the country getting involved in practical blockading of the contractors - who are working on the site and are busy building and profiting from a project which is as big as Heathrow's Terminal 5.
Right now they are working on the Orion laser facility - which will enable complex nuclear materials testing and partically circumvent the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty. Contractors are coming and going to and from the site every single day.
This hyper-militarist and incredibly hypocritical project (esp vis all the blah about Iran's nuclear programme) must be actively and practically resisted.
So, it's only one day (though you are welcome to come down any month for the regular blockades), but come and join us for a big and practical/active NVDA blockade of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) Aldermaston on Monday 10 July 2006 and block the builders working on the new facilities.
Meet up the night before for plotting and planning, or arrive by 7am on the Monday - any later and, if you come by car (which obviously you shouldn't becuase cycling/public transport etc is best!) you will be stuck in traffic (location here: http://tinyurl.com/qpm9f).
- Practical NVDA training available day before.
- Legal support on the day.
For full details, see http://www.blockthebuilders.org.uk/action (includes accommodation, policing, parking and other info).
Called by Block the Builders - a nonviolent direct action campaign working to stop the development of new nuclear weapons facilities at AWE Aldermaston.
