Dirty Tricks from the Dirty Incinerator!

Waste Recycling Group, owners of Nottingham's polluting incinerator, are accused of trying to influence the planning decision on their proposed £50million extension, in a dirty tricks campaign.

NAIL has received a leaked letter which has been sent to every city councillor in Nottingham, by Waste Recycling Group (WRG), owners of Nottingham's Eastcroft incinerator.

In the letter WRG quote the Governments policy and plans to increase incineration and Defra's (Department for Food and Rural Affairs) preference on incineration over landfill.

We believe that this letter is a deliberate attempt to pressurised councillors and to muddy the waters. WRG have clearly 'cheery picked' the information in a desperate attempt to gain ground, after all they stand to make £millions if they are granted planning permission from the council.

WRG go on to offer each city councillor a chance to visit their facility, they state "it is an important application for the city and the subject of local interest and consequently feel that many issues relating to the proposed extension can be better understood if the councillors visited the site".

We find the timing of this letter and invitation is absolutely deplorable, as the planning decision is imminent.

In addition the invitation includes the councillors on the Development Control Committee, those who will be making the final decision, these councillors legally have to remain impartial.

We believe that our city councillors should come clean and inform the public if they have or intend to take up WRG’s offer. We would hope that they have unconditionally declined, after all the city council themselves refused to meet concerned locals at a planned Radio Nottingham Groundswells debate in April.

We also believe that WRG should not make this offer to our councillors, but members of the public. Therefore if you agree please contact WRG directly and request a visit at your convenience, please phone them on 0845 601 5432 or email  info.eastcroft@wrg.co.uk

Please let us know how you get on, particularly if you bump into any councillors !
