today, wednesday 14 june, the mexican military police have violently evicted over 4000 school teachers, who have been occupying the streets of oaxaca city, mexico for the past five weeks, demanding basic amenities for their schoolchildren. During the course of the evictions this morning two children and two teachers were killed.

for five weeks the state school teachers of oaxaca state, mexico have been occupying the zocalo and streets of the state capital in an effort to achieve the following demands;
1.suspension of mandatory school fees
2. free uniforms for schoolchildren
3. shoes for all school children
4. school meals
5.dormitories for homeless or vulnerably housed children

the teachers have been camped in tents and gazeebos in the colonial centre, one of mexicos premier tourist destinations. The state governer has persistantly refused to engage in dialogue with the teachers. todays eviction was unannounced and completely unexpected. more later.....
