Commonplace to screen alternative World Cup

The Common Place social centre cinema collective has announced its plans to host an 'alternative World Cup' screening during June and July.

As all of you will know, the World Cup is about to start and the nation is gripped over one boy-man's metatarsel...and the German media's conspiracy theory that Wayne Rooney was never injured in the first place and it's just one big giant con.

The Common Place social centre and the World Cup

Thanks to a bit of last minute DIY work from GP Dave, the Cinema Collective is proud to present the 'alternative World Cup'.Yes, we'll be screening the games (well some of them) on the giant home made screen and, yes, the bar will be open. But before each game, we'll be trying our damned hardest to find a dead good politically educational film on a national/relevant theme. There will be a heavy anti-imperialist, anti-corporate spirit in the air.

First screening: Sunday, 11 June, 3-8pm - Colonials versus the Natives

3-6pm: Films and hopefully discussion about European Colonialism in Africa
6-8pm: Portugal versus Angola (former Portuguese colony)

@ the Common Place
23-25 Wharf Street

More alternative screenings to be announced soon.
