Water-gate 'Leaks' Inflates Prices

Revol | 06.06.2006 16:24 | Ecology | Globalisation | Liverpool | London

It has been revealed that Merseyside's water supplier loses an incredible 26% of its supply to leaks - second only to Thames Water.

Especially since privatisation, water companies have been more concerned with making money than providing a good service. This means that we all have to pay more so that they can make a profit!

The amount of water lost from United Utilities' pipes is 35 GALLONS per property PER DAY, and even a House of Lords inquiry today called that "unacceptably high".

This was revealed just days after the company announced their equally scandalous £481 million profit - up 21% on last year, and warned that water bills will have to go still higher! This is supposedly to help repair the ageing pipes, but they only predict a 1.06% cut in leakage by the end of the decade!

The Lords expressed their worry that "consumers' trust in the water companies" is dangerously low, presumably because people are beginning to sit up and take notice of the extent they are being ripped off. The next step is to confirm the worst nightmares of the rich and demanding fundamental change in the way 'our' services are provided.

The Chief Executive of United Utilities is John Roberts:

Perhaps ask him why he is not properly tackling the ongoing leaks and why prices are increasing, whilst his company's profits are on the increase...?
