Invitation to Climate Camp meeting in London, 9-10th June

Camp for Climate Action | 03.06.2006 08:35 | Climate Camp 2006 | Climate Chaos | Ecology | London

The Camp for Climate Action will run from 26th August to 4 September 2006 in the North of England. To get involved in organising the camp please come along to the next monthly organising meeting in London, 9-10 June

Climate change will transform life on Earth without action now. We are currently on course for a 3C degree rise in temperature, which is likely to mean the deaths of 400 million of the world's poorest people, and a social crisis that will engulf us all. And still the insane machine rumbles on: political clichés about sustainable growth, full steam ahead for nuclear power, the new Airbus, civil war in Iraq, the gridlocked motorways rumbling towards oil depletion…

The Camp for Climate Action is about standing up and saying no to a system that puts the economy and the market before life and the ecology of the planet. It will be thousands of people taking part in 10 days of low impact living with information on climate change, debates, practical workshops to reduce our ecological footprints, and mass direct action against major carbon criminals.

We are a growing network of groups and individuals who hold a monthly organising gathering. We hope to see you at the London planning meeting, or at future gatherings. If you can’t make any of those, get in touch all the same – we may be able to put you in touch with people nearby who are also planning to go.

Address: St Matt’s, Bullivant Street, London E14 0ER; (nearest station is All Saints DLR, turn right out of the station and go straight until you cross Cotton Street, then you will be able to see the place and turn right into Bullivant Street to get in. Buses 15 and 115 go from town (Paddington, Oxford Circus, Aldgate) as well as multiple buses from Hackney and other places in the East. Again look out for All Saints station or Crisp St Market, get off the stop after and follow same directions as above.)
