Sharphill woods in west Bridgford Nottingham is scheduled for 1200 houses to be built on the land around them, thanks to the local conservative council, who plan to make a packet out of the deal as does the land owner Mr Wells.
Today locals showed their opposition by holding hands across the hill as a symbolic show of opposition to the plans. despite the rain several hundred people turned out to show their opposition.
for more on the issue and for info on the protest camp that has been set up see

Normally I am unconvinced that letter writing and petitions makes much of a difference but on this occasion I think it will so log onto the website where there is an easy way to email all the councillors http://www.savesharphill.co.uk/
Or write a letter to them c/o Rushcliffe Borough Council Civic Centre, Pavilion Road, West Bridgford Nottingham NG2 5FE, or to their home addresses which can be found at http://www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/electedRep_results.asp?cat=1572
