Deutsche Bank cleaners demo on Monday

Justice for Cleaners | 18.05.2006 09:58

The cleaners at Deutsche Bank are raising the pressure on Deutsche Bank and their cleaning company, Lancaster. Big demo scheduled in front of Winchester House on Monday, 22nd.

For two months now, the cleaners at Deutsche Bank have demonstrated almost every week in front of the London Deutsche Bank headquarters. The cleaners, who have been involved in the Justice for Cleaners campaign since last year, work for Lancaster, which has the largest slice of the cleaning market in the City of London. Since they joined the campaign they have already won some concessions from the cleaning company, such as a pay raise up to £6 an hour (plus 50p in a performance-related bonus), 20-day holidays, and English classes (most people at Deutsche Bank come from Portugal and Brazil). However, they are still fighting for union recognition, sick leave pay, and £6.70 an hour. Above all, they are fighting to force Lancaster -- the only cleaning company which has so far refused to recognise the Cleaners' Union -- to negotiate a zonal agreement that will set the standards for the whole industry all across London.

On Monday, May 22nd at 4.30 pm there will be a huge demo in front of Winchester House, the Deutsche Bank headquarters on London Wall. If after this demo Lancaster and Deutsche Bank remain unmoved, the cleaners are calling for a demo every Monday at the same time for however long it takes to make them give in.

Monday, May 22nd, 4.30pm. Meet at 4.15pm at Liverpool Street Station (in front of McDonald's, Liverpool Street entrance).
